Turun Sanomat chooses Anygraaf's ePlannerThe TS-Yhtymä group has chosen Anygraaf's ePlanner for its newspapers' internet publications. The group publishes Finland's third largest daily newspaper, Turun Sanomat, in Turku, as well as the following titles: Salon Seudun Sanomat, Uudenkaupungin Sanomat, Aamuset, Auranmaan Viikkolehti, Kaarina-lehti, Laitilan Sanomat, Loimaan Lehti, Paikallislehti Somero and Ykkössanomat. TS-Yhtymä has collaborated with Anygraaf over a long period. The group chose the Doris publishing system at the start of the 2000s and had been using its predecessor, Toti, since the mid 1990s when it published the first internet newspapers in Finland. When the group wanted an internet publishing system that could manage the publication of several titles, it was quickly established that Anygraaf's ePlanner offered the best solution. TS-Yhtymä and Anygraaf reached agreement on a development project that would make ePlanner the chosen solution for the group's internet news sites. The Salon Seudun Sanomat title was chosen as the pilot user for ePlanner. Raimo Ollilla, the head of internet publications at TS-Yhtymä, says that the group chose ePlanner because the system is uniform, well-suited for publication of several titles and also integrates with other applications operated by the company. Esa Koskinen, head of IT, compares ePlanner with a building kit with which you can build anything, "from a water chute to a Porsche". Six of the group's newspapers are being published with the help of ePlanner at present, and the project continues. All-in-one is very important
Raimo Ollilla stresses the importance of managing all of the publication content with a single tool and the same database. "Publication on the website should be an integrated part of the newspaper. It's a matter of selection, and you have to have full control over the material," says Ollilla, who considers that digital asset management means that all material can be handled in the same channel and be available for all forms of publication. The ePlanner system suits TS-Yhtymä well, says Ollilla. "Everyone should be able to publish material in the newspaper, website, radio, etc, without needing special expertise. No-one should have to start thinking about which channel the material will be used in," he says. Open, easy-to-useOllilla says that ePlanner works well with other applications. Turun Sanomat publishes its own photo gallery using ePlanner, while Salon Seudun Sanomat has a popular service catalogue. "Today you won't find hardly any serious publishing system that doesn't have an integrated service for website publication. Separate systems are a thing of the past," says Raimo Ollilla. The next challenge in the development of ePlanner at Turun Sanomat, according to Raimo Ollilla, will be to enable individual journalists, without the help of technical staff, to create their own specially themed supplements and use new article templates.
